Study of bridge idealized as single beam, simply supported at ends; within limitations of bridge idealization, vehicle is accurately represented as multiple-axle sprung load with proper account taken of effect of interleaf friction in its suspension system; consideration is given to effect of roadway roughness; initial conditions for vehicle were assumed to be no initial verticle motion, small initial sinusoidal motion of vehicle with arbitrary phase relation, and large initial motion of vehicle at instant each axle enters span to simulate effect of sharp discontinuity between approach pavement and bridge surface.
