Analysis idealized bridge as single, continuous beam and represents vehicle as multi-axle sprung load; primary emphasis was placed on effect of initially oscillating two-axle vehicles, although simpler loadings were also considered; uncontrollable parameters such as initial phase of vertical oscillation of vehicle, phase difference between motions of individual axles, and initial values of interleaf friction in suspension system of vehicle are quite significant; most significant is amplitude of initial oscillation of vehicle; large initial amplitudes of variation of interacting forces between axles and ground produce greater dynamic response of bridge.
