Review of experience accumulated by airframe, engine, and control systems designers in United Kingdom in course of developing wide variety of first generation turbine engined helicopters; requirements for engine control in twin turbine helicopters; examples of turbine installations in Westland helicopters; experimental results examined illustrate and define requirements for future engine control systems showing that handling characteristics of free power turbine engines can be improved to equal best characteristics previously experienced with fixed shaft turbines.
