Efforts made at Southwest Research Institute to overcome lower power and idle fuel consumption features of automotive gas turbine engine led to new concept for applying siamesed gas turbine configuration to military heavy-duty, off-the-road vehicles; compressor is split into two separate components; one component supplies air for gas generator section and other supplies air for power section of engine, both systems being selectively coupled by arrangement of hydromechanical and aerodynamic links; one possible arrangement for concept is shown in graphical form; cycle performance; advantages of concept.
