Evidence shows that Australian and Java tektites entered earth's atmosphere and experienced ablation; laboratory experiments on hypervelocity ablation reproduced ring-wave flow ridges and coiled circumferential flanges like those found on tektites; 98% of Australian tektites represent aerodynamically stable configurations during ablative portion of entry trajectory; certain meteorites exhibit similar surface features.
