Use of train loader and slusher combination which could be supplemented with mucking machine if this proved necessary in construction of Tehachapi exploratory tunnel crossing California Aqueduct in Kern County; tunnel is 3600 ft long, 8 ft high, and 6 ft wide; train loader avoided necessity of switching cars in narrow tunnel where both extremely high pressures and bad ground, together with possible heavy water conditions, were anticipated; train is unusual in that it is mounted on double truck wheels, at ends of long one-piece car, which provide flexibility for following curves of track; air-powered slusher is drawn by 8-ton Plymouth diesel locomotive.
