Review of researches undertaken, and description of NASA Landing Loads Tract at Langley Research Center developed to investigate operation of aircraft on ground while taxing, turning, braking, and traversing rough runways and taxi strips; factors affecting landing and takeoff distances, such as runway surface conditions, whether dry, wet, or covered with slush, and tire tread pattern and its state of wear; performance calculations for jet transport show effect of runway slush on takeoff distance; effects of tire-to-runway breaking coefficients on landing runout distances.
