Details of high temperature research coker, built by "Shell" Research at Thornton Research Center, to test stability of fuels for supersonic transport; CRF Fuel Coker served as basis for development and modifications such as heated fuel reservoir, higher fuel pressures and fuel preheat temperatures are incorporated, but fuel performance is still rated by visual comparison of deposits on fuel preheater tube and by pressure drop developed across sintered filter unit; heating capacity of unit is sufficient to cope with Mach 2 temperature levels at present, and will later be extended to cover those possible with Mach 3 operation.
