Objective of supersonic transport program is to achieve aircraft with direct operating costs per seat mile comparative to those of present subsonic jets and which can be operated consistently over nonstop trans-Atlantic flights; Pan American World Airways estimates are that SST will require 0.50 gal or more per available passenger mile; summary of experience made with current turbine fuels; SST fuel requirements; it is suggested that fuel somewhat more dense than present aviation kerosene, closely akin to No. 2 heating oil, can and should be used.
