In order to minimize kinetic energy left behind in wake of vertical-axis ship propeller, oscillating motion of propeller blades is discussed; blades are assumed to be infinitely thin and infinitely long; chord of profiles is small with respect to curvature of cycloidal orbit of blades; also case of propeller with many blades or with high rotational velocity is considered.
