Low-speed aerodynamics of aircraft shapes suitable for supersonic speeds; wind tunnel tests on model with boundary layer control methods applied; work aimed at clarifying requirements for handling qualities of future aircraft; flight tests on Avro 707A aircraft, with artificially worsened characteristics show that substantially constant performance in piloting task can be achieved at expense of increased pilot effort; conclusions on desirable levels of speed stability and phugoid damping drawn.
