Bowes Drive developed by THOMAS D. BOWES, for ship propulsion, is used to reduce solely by electrical means, speed of Diesel engine to lower speed demanded for most efficient operation of propellers; installed in CI-MAVI motor cargo vessel, Coastal Liberator, it underwent Maritime trials which are briefly reported; rating of Bowes electric drive was 2200-hp, 3-phase, 48 cycles, at engine speed of 240 rpm, giving shaft speed of 120 rpm with field current of 500 v at 540 amp per phase.
