Practical applications show how prediction of six ship motions of surge, sway, heave, roll, pitch and yaw can be made in realistic short-crested sea using response characteristics obtained from model experiment or theory and suitably hindcasted wave spectra; computer program developed to calculate all six rigid-body motions of ship for any speed and heading relative to seaway uses library of sea spectra covering Atlantic Ocean for 1 yr; while program was devised in connection with aircraft carrier landing system, it is adaptable for other ships if corresponding response characteristics are known.
