Operational considerations leading to U S Navy COIN/LARA Light Armed Reconnaissance Aircraft program are discussed and need for aircraft with capability to operate in battlefield environments is indicated; kind of performance needed to achieve adequate survivability and effective operations is covered with particular emphasis on design trade-offs and tactical applications of performance characteristics which can be optimized at moderate speeds.
