Relationship of direct operating cost factors for subsonic jet transport is compared with that for supersonic transport; it is shown that fuel represents 60% of seat mile cost for supersonic transport; examination of fuel requirements with respect to thermal stability, burning quality and lubricity and engine designer's responsibility; various recommendations made relating to supersonic transport engine fuel system, tank structure and locations, advanced cooling techniques for turbine nozzles and vanes, etc; additional considerations.
