Cold starting of 14 new cars was studied in laboratory at various temperatures and with oils of differing viscosity to find cranking speeds at which various cars would start, and temperature and oil-viscosity conditions under which such speeds could be secured; cranking speed controlling factor; cranking speed of 35 r.p.m. desirable under worst conditions.
