It is pointed out that, although many types of detonation may be distinguished, there is unity in causes; most methods of increasing output tend to intensify detonation in gasoline engine, but reverse is true of Diesel; in both, number of collisions of activated reagents is decisive, and self-ignition may be influenced by activated oxygen and by activated hydrocarbon.
