It is maintained that well designed Diesel engines in good repair need not smoke while being operated on normal fuel if they are prevented from being overloaded; following suggestions made to eliminate smoke; smoke should first be diagnosed, mixing of fuel and air should be improved, and ignition must be speeded up.
