Development of mathematical model for shoe element in internal shoe brake is used to study effects of shoe force geometry on various brake parameters; analysis is predicted on specific modes of radial shoe displacement into drum, and includes shoes which have either 1 or 2 degrees of freedom; factors to consider when evaluating brake characteristics; different typical configurations are discussed in terms of logic dictated by theory.
