Near Oakland, Calif, 7-mi dual-mode project encompasses State Route 24 freeway and, in freeway median, twin tracks of Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) District's rail system; it is shown how joint planning of highway and rail transit provided reduced costs, reduced right-of-way, minimized traffic interruption during construction, and more convenient access for local citizens; 950-car parking lot of BART station at Orinda is planned below freeway level and screened by plantings.
