Installation of automatic, impressed-current cathodic protection system, known as Capac, on fleet of 15 tankers has met with success in arresting corrosion on immersed areas of hulls, propellers, and rudders during past 5 yr; system is designed to maintain hull potential at 0.85 v; basically, it consists of platinum anodes, power supplies that provide precise current requirements to anodes, and reference electrodes that monitor and control protection being provided.
