Abort maneuvers and propulsion requirements for returning crew capsule to Earth are examined for various phases of mission, including Earth-Moon transfer, lunar landing, and lunar launch; emphasis is on two maneuvers of landing phase -- descending to lunar surface on steep flight path at terminus of lunar impact trajectory, and landing from low altitude lunar orbit along grazing trajectory; results indicate that most of anticipated abort maneuvers can be accomplished with lunar takeoff stage.
