Phases of space flight in which emergencies requiring abort are most likely to occur depend on mission; since for lunar mission, vehicle will be in midcourse region for over 75% of flight time, it is essential to study problem of abort during this phase; abort technique is described which requires minimum of on-board equipment illustrating performance of scheme by presenting results of digital simulation of system.
