Analysis of performance and wear characteristics of sliding metal-to-metal contacts used for transfer of electric energy from overhead contact line to moving electric locomotive resulted in conclusions which required confirmation of road tests; trials made on regular transcontinental trains for purpose of verifying laboratory observations.
