Autonomous Aerial Vehicles are playing a vital role in today’s world in many aspects. Specifically, in Military, Industrial Survey, data acquisition, Mineral exploration, Wildfire Monitoring, Traffic monitoring, Research Test Beds for the development of future technologies and much more. Helicopters are one of the most preferred categories when coming to a selection of the vehicle for any said application. The following thesis addresses the problem of designing a autonomous controller for a helicopter using H∞ control method. The procedure for the controller development involves model identification of the given system using the system identification techniques as the first step, wherein the mathematical model of the system is identified using the SIDPAC software. The second step involves the design of the controller for the obtained mathematical model using the H∞ techniques. The thesis is summarized with the simulation results obtained from the simulation of the controller in SIMULINK. These results prove the robust path tracking capabilities of the controller that has been developed.
