This paper investigates the relationship between truck load and pavement performance. HanNing Freeway, one main branch of the freeway network of Shaanxi Province, China, is taken as the case study. Trucks are classified into several types according to their axle number and types of axle group and wheel group. The truck load distribution on all axles is calculated and converted into single loads compacted by each truck on the freeway pavement. The sectional cumulative equivalent of single axle load (SCESAL) is calculated. Pavement performance is reflected by the pavement quality or performance index (PQI), obtained from pavement evaluation data. Several regression models are developed to describe the relationship between SCESAL and PQI. The quadratic regression model has the highest goodness-of-fit. This study’s findings could be applied to predict pavement performance based on the SCSALE value that can be extracted from the toll data.
