A vertical high-speed vehicle-slab track coupled dynamics model is established based on the theory of vehicle-track coupled dynamics to analyze effect of polygonal wheel on the dynamic performance of vehicle and track system in both time and frequency domains in this paper. The track random irregularity and the measured polygonal wheel irregularity are regarded as excitations of wheel-rail interface. The wheel-rail vertical force and wheel load reduction rate are utilized to evaluate vehicle running safety, and the wave depth safety thresholds are proposed. Simulation results show that, the high-frequency impact between wheel and rail is generated by the measurement polygonal wheel which belongs to high-order polygonal. The influence on wheel-rail vertical force is mainly reflected on high frequency domains corresponding to predominant orders. The wheel-rail vertical force and the fastener force basically will increase with the growth of the harmonic order and the wave depth, respectively. Transmitting of high frequency vibration caused by high order polygonal wheel to the carbody can be fully isolated through vehicle suspension device. However, to the tack slab, it can not be completely absorbed through fastener system. The polygonal wheel has a great effect on the vibration of the track slab, and little effect on the vertical acceleration of the carbody.
