Data from a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system provides us essential operating information of traveling vehicles. This paper attempts to address the urban commuting pattern through data obtained from a license plate recognition system in Beijing. The spatial and temporal distribution of commuting trips and variation characteristics will be analyzed according to data processing. We hope that it will give a support to the study of commuting behaviors and the applications of data from LPR.
