The study of aquatic mobility was long limited to the economics of maritime and river transport and to the modeling of “origin–destination” routes. Faced with the imperatives of the decarbonization of transport, the inland navigation boat seems to stand out not only as a profitable and less energy‐consuming mode of transport but also as a way of living and moving differently, according to more deferred rhythms in particular. In the context of the environmental crisis and the decarbonization of travel, inland navigation is returning to the political and economic forefront as a cost‐effective and ”energy‐efficient” means of transport, particularly over long distances. The aquatic perspective is an “in depth” thought which decompartmentalizes the movement of the plane surfaces by returning them to their verticality and their voluminosity.
