This chapter describes the general principles of color management in Photoshop. It looks at how Photoshop evolved and how color management became integral to it. The chapter focuses on the simple operational rules Photoshop uses, such as, every image must have a profile, and all conversions require at least two profiles, a source and a destination profile. Next, it deals with implementing color management in Photoshop, and the concept of a Working Space. The chapter also describes Photoshop menus and operations such as Color Settings, Assign Profile, and Convert to Profile and considers a number of Photoshop's print options including creating a hardcopy press proof. Photoshop is the best program to use for real‐world color management. Finally, the chapter provides a summary of the steps involved in creating a color‐managed system to evaluate an original and a reproduction and to conduct a screen‐to‐print match.
