This chapter discusses valuation drivers. A value driver is an activity or organizational focus, which enhances the perceived value of a product or service in the perception of the consumer and which therefore creates value for the producer. Advanced technology, reliability, or reputation for customer relations can all be value drivers. Capabilities and activities also drive value. Creation of one or more of a company's value drivers typically occurs either when a company is born or as a result of customer loyalty surveys. Knowing what drives value helps the firm align the behaviors and activities inside it with the expectations and value perceptions outside. The chapter discusses capitalism's unique feature of self‐renewal and describes types of value drivers, gives an example of how to unearth a value driver, and offers a simple way to test their staying power.
