Multiple spacecraft/aircraft flight formation and coordination control are topics that have received a lot of attention over the past decades. The wide variety of applications of multiautonomous vehicle systems are: formation flying, heavy and/or large load transportation, aerial refueling, and spacecraft formation flying. Spacecrafts, aircrafts, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are dynamic systems that can be classified as underactuated mechanical systems. A state‐of‐the‐art on multiple spacecraft formation flying is discussed in the chapter. The chapter also presents an outline of how the other chapters of the book are organised.
