This chapter gives a brief introduction to modelling techniques for mechanical systems, encompassing the entire load path from system loads to local stresses and strains. The description of the modelling techniques “finite element method (FEM)” and “multibody system simulation (MBS)” focuses on their use for simulation and their potential in the field of load data analysis. The chapter points out relations between simulation and load data analysis. Finally, it addresses the issue of invariant system loads.
