The purpose of the audits is to confirm that the correct steps have been taken, that the timing is appropriate for release, and whether any additional actions need to be taken based on the findings. A standard format helps make an efficient periodic audit possible. Project audits are sometimes performed by external organizations. There is not a single safety organization or accreditation endorsed by safety standards such as ISO 26262, and no certification is recognized by the automotive safety standards. Efficiency is gained by enterprises that employ a single system safety process that includes both safety of the intended function and functional safety. Assessment of work products is different from an audit or a design review. The system safety assessment of work products confirms that the requirements for the work product are satisfied and that the work product is suitable for inclusion as evidence in the safety case.
