This chapter is dedicated to the problems related to the transferring area and the storage yard operations. Storage yards are used as an essential massive buffer area between ships and customers who will take the loads in another mode of transportation. The chapter then reviews the storage space allocation problem (SSAP), in which storage spaces are assigned to importing and exporting containers. It presents the operation scheduling for the yard cranes, and also reviews vehicle scheduling problems. Yard crane scheduling problem (YCSP) consists of finding a suitable sequence of storage and/or retrieval operations in the storage yard. Although the integrated scheduling methods have shown a superior performance in increasing the throughput of the seaports, few research studies take into account all the handling equipment in the container terminals (CTs).
