This chapter focuses on the resistance test. It shows how the resistance values found in the model test are used to predict the resistance of the full scale vessel. The chapter explains the additions and corrections to the resistance coefficients of the model test. It analyses the issues associated with scaling model test results to full scale. The chapter establishes full scale resistance predictions based on model test results. Wave resistance coefficient and form factor are used for the full scale vessel without corrections. Resistance tests are conducted under Froude similarity that is the full scale ship speed equivalent to the model speed. Ship models are usually built without deck house and other superstructure like for example cargo containers. The total resistance coefficient for the full scale vessel is obtained by adding wave resistance coefficient and air resistance coefficient.
