Turn performance is significant for the performance of highly maneuverable military aircraft and is also critical for the safety of flight of lighter general aviation aircraft. This chapter presents the theory of turn performance, describing how load factor, bank angle, turn radius, turn rate, and airspeed are related to one another in a turn. The various limits on turning performance are described, including structural limits, aerodynamic stall, and power limits, as presented on a Vn diagram. This chapter concludes with a discussion of flight testing techniques to verify turn performance and measure stall characteristics in a turn.
