This chapter aims to review the literature concerning the integration of building information modeling (BIM) into railway projects and the improvement of the benefits of this integration. It shows the importance of the rail sector and its assets in economic, social and ecological terms. The chapter provides an overview of BIM's development, benefits, risks and issues. It reviews the literature regarding the integration of BIM into rail projects and highlights the benefits of this integration. The chapter also reviews of the literature will be reinforced by a practical case study of projects that have chosen the BIM integration approach. It proposes some lines of research for the successful integration of BIM into railway projects. The chapter explores future directions for integrating BIM into railway projects to optimize collaboration, budgets and schedules.
