In order to create a new product development process, an example using Quality Engineering was created so that engineers could easily understand the new approach. The magnetic sensing system was selected as a model example for demonstrating the new general purpose design techniques using Quality Engineering. For development of new magnetic sensing system, techniques and concepts suggested by quality engineering were applied completely. To reduce the effect of interaction between the control factors to the smallest possible, the level of the control factors was set as narrow as 5%. Improvements attributable to changing the traditional technique to Quality Engineering were estimated. Numerous design changes resulted from poorly balanced specifications. For this problem, in the system design technique using Quality Engineering, the time to market was greatly shortened by having to develop a well balanced specification at the initial stage of development.
