The FlexRay set of components consists of protocol managers, microcontrollers including protocol managers, one or two line drivers and new members: depending on whether the applications are redundant or not, active stars and, finally, depending on the applications, a special element, a bus guardian. All the electronic modules must be protected from possible electrostatic discharges (ESDs). This requirement is usually expressed by keeping to discharges of 8 kV according to the ‘human model’ implemented in conformity with ISO standard IEC61000‐4‐2, and the measurement methods recommended by the University of Zwickau. This chapter concerns conformity tests and test procedures, which the components and networks must undergo both at the level of protocol management in the strict sense, and at that of the electrical and timing operation of the physical layer.
