The focus of this study is on the aircraft routing problem and the potential role of a ferrying strategy for fueling the aircraft. The main contribution is to estimate the cost of maintenance routing when fuel ferrying strategies are considered. A combined model of aircraft routing and fuel management is developed and applied for three scenarios of fuel cost distribution in a small conceptual network with five stations and 18 flight legs. The results show that fuel cost variations make the ferrying strategy effective in the aircraft routing problem.
