Currently, flight alternate is becoming a growing serious problem in large hub airports due to temporary emergencies such as adverse weather, equipment outages, runway collisions, terrorism threats, and others. Therefore it becomes more and more pressing to study alternate strategy for arriving flights in large hub airports. By taking the minimum total diverted time as the optimization objective in this paper, an optimization model based on linear programming is proposed to solve the allocation alternative airports problem for arriving flights. Then it is verified by real operational data of the capital airport under bad weather. Experiments show that the whole flights diversion time is reduced by 9.7% after optimization, which proves that the model is effective.
