Pavement grooving is generally used to reduce hydroplaning and accidents by providing escaping channels for surface water. But the direction of grooving has influence on its performance. The purpose of this study is to provide a comparison of longitudinal and transverse diamond grooving pavement surface for newly constructed Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) in terms of skid-resistance and noise feature. The test-section is located in LI Jia-he Tunnel of Lantian-Shangluo expressway. The results show that the transverse grooving has a better performance to ensure the longitudinal skid resistance than that of longitudinal grooving pavement. However, the longitudinal grooving has a good performance of preventing vehicle side slipping and reducing the noise than that of the transverse grooving pavement.
