Crack Initiation Life Estimations for Notched Specimens with Residual Stresses Based on Local Strains, M. Vormwald et. al. (The model of Lawrence, the model of Reemsnyder and the thin surface layer model). Fatigue Crack Growth in the Presence of Residual Stresses, H. Berns et. al. Slow Crack Growth in the Presence of Tensile Residual Stresses, R. Hermann et. al. (The aim of this work is to estimate the magnitude and distribution of residual stress formed by compressive pre-loading and to correlate this with the kinetics of subsequent sub-critical crack growth within the stressed region. A further aim is to establish the loading parameter which controls crack growth in the presence of residual stresses. Three contrasting materials were studied: a mild steel conforming to BS970, 070 M20, aluminium alloy 7017-T651 and an alloy steel, 3 1/2%CrMoV, taken from a generator rotor.)
