Detroit Edison's 5,100-ft steam line had to be replaced since it has already reached the end of its life-cycle. As a cost-savings measure, its was decided to leave the original lines untouched and buried in their existing trenches, and to dig a new trench to install a new, single 16-in cellular glass insulated steam line. The successful installation of this line is described.
