Pour point depressants (PPDs) are used as chemical additives when handling and transporting crude oils and heavy fuels at temperatures below their wax appearance point. To choose the optimum additive, laboratory studies that simulate field conditions must be carried out. These studies enable the temperature effect and the treatment residence time effect to be clarified.
