The introduction of resin transfer molding (RTM) within the high performance aerospace segment has increased the demand for developing lower cost fabrication methods. In order to achieve affordability, basic modifications to traditional processing methodologies are required. As such, cost benefit realization can only be augmented through the implementation of a flexible based, alternative RTM approach; one that is inherently responsive to change. This approach is predicated on the implementation of several key mechanisms; agile resin injection stations, integrally heated molds, vent/port hardware standardization and processing equipment designed to support rapid change. This paper will present the incorporation of these concepts into a production environment.
