There are two economically useful applications of downhole video technology during multilateral well drilling and completion operations. The first is the quick diagnosis of installation difficulties during the junction installation procedures and the second is verification of junction integrity after the completion of the junction. Included in the latter is the application of downhole video to evaluate the status after certain intermediate steps during the junction installation procedures themselves. This inspection technology has already been used to decrease the risk involved with multilateral technology through its application during the testing of multilateral completion systems, by evaluating the results of milling operations, and in verifying junction integrity.
