In this paper, the authors applied three kinds of driver models to the simulation under lateral wind disturbance on a real road and investigated the accuracy of those simulations. The principal results are summarized as follows: Existent driver models such as the linear prediction model and the second order prediction model are not very adequate for simulating the drivers' steering behavior under lateral wind disturbance. The new driver model named Wind Reaction Model, in which steering depending on wind velocity is introduced has a higher accuracy of simulation than the second order prediction model. The wind reaction model is applicable to simulations under a wide scope of various wind conditions. As a further investigation, the authors intend to apply this proposed model to the design of advanced vehicle control or driver assistance systems.
