A MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) gain-scheduling controller was designed (in an LPV form) for the longitudinal flight control of helicopters. Based on LMI (Linear Matrix Inequalities) and quadratic H(sub infinity) performance objectives a 2-degrees of freedom gain-scheduling control configuration was proposed in order to achieve both good robustness and required flight handling qualities within a whole specified region of operation. Relevant issues such as the choice of the weighting functions are discussed. A new technique for affine LPV system modeling and its application to helicopters is also descried.
